THE EXPERTS showed up, shared, and are ready to rise together!

A heartfelt welcome to the more than 323 of you who subscribed this week. I'm so glad you're here. Thank you for standing with us!

The investment in survivor-centered expertise is as deep as the well of brilliant leaders and business owners supporting survivors, families, organizations, advocates, and communities. Amazingly, 95 people registered for our launch session!

On October 1, twelve advocates, survivor-leaders, and consultants joined me live for Get Featured as a Survivor-Centered Expert. It was lovely to be in community with them.  I’m grateful for their leadership, partnership, and trust.

I asked two questions during the session. Here's what you told me.

Our expertise has been leading change for decades. Every one of the 10 people who answered is already consulting. Seven are booking clients now. Three consult now and then, or informally. Nobody in the room was starting from zero.

That's the point of this network. The expertise in our movement is real, and people are already paying for it. The Survivor-Centered Expert Services Network gives organizations and funders one place to find it, book it, and pay experts directly.

Who was in the room. When I asked what organizations call each person for most, the answers covered the full range of what our field needs:

  • Survivor speaking and lived-experience consulting
  • Community engagement and strategic planning
  • Trauma-informed organizational development, program design, and project management
  • Technical assistance, skill building, and sexual violence expertise
  • Financial leadership and board development
  • Evaluation, research, and strategy
  • Fractional executive leadership, operational conflict, and organizational change
  • Child welfare, custody, immigrant survivor relief, and economic and housing supports, from advocacy, training, and policy angles
  • Policies and programs that include immigrant communities
  • Advocate wellness

This is the expertise from one 45-minute session. Imagine what a full directory of these advocate and survivor consultants can do.

Experts are ready to build momentum together! Four of the 8 people who answered plan to apply in October: two this week and two by the end of the month. Three are gathering their checklist items first, and one is still deciding. Wherever you are, there's a next step that fits.

Programs are hiring this expertise now. Here are public consultant postings from domestic violence, sexual assault, and trafficking organizations that I found through social media and website research.

  • YWCA Berkeley/Oakland: Senior Fundraising Consultant or Fractional Chief Development Officer
  • HEAL Trafficking: board retreat strategy facilitator, $3K to $6K
  • NY State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence: prevention programming consultant, up to $300K
  • Asian/Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project: evaluation consultant, up to $10K a year
  • End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin: strategic planning for local programs, $120K
  • Brighter Tomorrows (NY domestic violence agency): contract grant writer for housing capital

Fundraising, strategy, evaluation, prevention, and grants. That's the work the people in our session already do.

What you asked me

Do I have to list exact prices? No. A range is fine. How you talk about pricing with clients is up to you.

What if my funding has rate limits, like federal grants? DVE puts no limits on funding streams. Pricing and payment are worked out directly between you and the organization.

How do I show my work when it's confidential? A short case study works well: the problem, what you did, and the outcome.
